Independent Leagues With No Champions

Independent Baseball Trivia Question

Since the 1993 inception of independent professional baseball leagues through the end of the 2019 season (not counting 2020’s season due to COVID), how many leagues did not crown or announce an official league champion?

Answer:

7 leagues (source:  http://www.independentbaseball.net/champions/)

  • 1994 Great Central League:  no champion
  • 1995 Atlantic Coast League:  no champion
  • 1995 Golden State League:  no champion
  • 1995 Mid-America League:  no champion
  • 1995 North Central League:  no champion
  • 2003 Arizona-Mexico League:  no champion
  • 2015 Mount Rainier Professional Baseball League: no champion

The above list does not include announced leagues which never played an actual regular season game.  It also does not include:

  • 2012 Freedom Pro Baseball League’s Copper State Prospectors (bestowed title after season ended before the playoffs)
  • 2010 Continental Baseball League’s Big Bend Cowboys (league shortened season by 3-4 weeks, but Cowboys defeated Las Cruces Vaqueros in the championship series)
  • 2003 Canadian Baseball League’s Calgary Outlaws (declared champions after mid-season All-Star Game and league then folded)
