League In Which Catskill Cougars Originally Played

Independent Baseball Trivia Question

The Catskill Cougars played most of their games as members of the Northeast League, including during the Northeast/Northern League merger.   In 1996, however, the Cougars played in a different league.  Which was that league?

Answer:

The North Atlantic League, and the Cougars won the league title.  The team technically started as the 1995 Northeast League team known as the Sullivan County Mountain Lions, but the team was sold.  The new owner moved took the team to the North Atlantic League and began play in 1996 as the Cougars, thus the “Cougars” having their first season starting in 1996.
